Tips for taking EVPs
- Speak clearly. NEVER whisper!
- Audibly note any noise you can confirm.
- Record in short sessions for easier review.
- Do not wear or carry noisy items.
- When possible set the recorder down for EVP sessions.
- Hold the recorder microphone away from you. The idea is to capture audio other than yourself.
- As always, take lots of extra batteries
- Verbally state the time, date, and location when starting a new recording.
- When asking a question, allow 20 seconds or so for a response.
- Ask simple questions.
- Example questions:
- Is there anyone here who would like to speak to us?
- Are you male?
- Are you female?
- Are you married?
- What is your name?
- Can we take a picture of you?
- Can you make a noise for me/us?
- What year is it?
- Do you know you're dead?
- Do you want to leave this place?
- Would you like us to leave?
- How did you die?
- How old are you?
- Why do you like it here?
- Would you like to relay a message to someone?
